The Swirly’s Origins
When folks have inventor genes, ideas don’t just incubate in their heads. They hatch. And if they are entrepreneurs, they market their ideas to change other people’s worlds.
The beginning of 2020 found Alvin Witmer and his team at VPW Enterprises, a Virginia-based cleaning equipment provider, crafting a pressure washer that could clean more surface area in less time. “Most people are using walk-behinds or doing it by hand with a pressure washer wand.” “We were looking for something larger–a larger surface cleaner that would be mobile,” Alvin mused. “We were starting out with a walker mower [design], and then one day, Bob Monk walked in.”
Robert explained what he needed and suggested that they build the surface cleaner to fit a Steiner, the type of garden tractor used in JMU’s groundskeeping department. Robert recounts, “I helped develop it. I gave them the information they were looking for, and they just put it together for what I needed!
How it Works
1. The stainless steel cleaning deck, with an ability to flip up for easy maneuvering, mounts to the front of a Ventrac or Steiner tractor.
2. Dual water tanks holding up to 300 gallons ride the trailer. This distributes the weight and allows the operator to squeeze into low clearance spaces.
3. The Swirly’s wand mounts onboard for handy access at hard-to-reach corners and edges. Output pressure controls apply just the right amount of force to destroy the grime without destroying sensitive areas of the property.
4. A high-efficiency vacuum system slurps up the dirty water and either deposits it into the dirty water tank or sprays it out onto the grass. Additionally, the Swirly has the option of a powerful filtration system, especially useful for flood water cleanup.
Tripling the Outcomes at Parking Garages
Triple D Enterprises, a power-washing company based in Shippensburg, PA, specializes in residential, commercial, and agricultural pressure cleaning. Pairing state-of-the-art machinery with biodegradable chemicals, their mantra is, “Don’t waste time. Let us fight your grime.” And they use the Swirly Surface Cleaner to do it.
The Swirly has saved Triple D massive amounts of time and money in their parking garage cleans. “There really isn’t any other machine out there. The only one that comes close is $240k, 3-4 times the price of the Swirly Surface Cleaner,” Dana Martin, Triple D owner relates. “Each year we clean the parking garages at Penn State with just a traditional surface cleaner and power washer. [When] we cleaned with the Swirly cleaner, they were very impressed with the outstanding performance and efficiency of this machine.”
Innovators themselves, Triple D tweaked the Swirly, adding a water filtration system. This custom system recycles the water by purifying it and then reusing it. This means fewer stops for water tank refilling. It also prevents wastewater from leaking into the public drainage systems.

These Swirly results are keeping Triple D at the front of their game. For parking garage companies, the ability to get cars back into their facilities a few days sooner than normal is a huge boon. Because of their faster pace with the Swirly, Dana remarked, “We don’t have trouble getting bids for parking garage contracts. We can get in and out of there in 3-4 days versus 6-7 days.”

You will receive a five year warranty on the stainless steel deck. You also will receive a five year pump warranty as specified by the manufacturer. - Pump oil must be changed after the “break-in” period of the first 20 hours of run time. Approximately every 500 hrs following.
- Do not run pump dry as this will damage high pressure seals.
- Do not allow the unit to freeze without displacing water with air or RV antifreeze.
- Do not operate the PTO of the ventrac with the deck lifted more than 4” from surface.
